Most suppliers of synthetic outdoor greens also offer a driving range product which is a high density 2″ pile height turf carpet filled with sand. The purpose of the sand is to hold or support a tee and provide a “natural-like” practice facility without the maintenance, and to be a softer surface than driving range mats.
Historically, the problem has been that sand hardens with moisture from irrigation heads or rain, the tee won’t go through the sand and the area is basically like hitting off a hardpan lie.
